What are heat pumps?

Heat pumps are devices used to heat and cool buildings by transferring thermal energy from a colder space to a warmer space using the refrigeration cycle, which is the opposite direction in which heat transfer would occur naturally without the application of external power.

Check the efficiency rating

When checking the characteristics of a heat pump, we focus on two indicators: COP & EER, as well as the type of refrigerant with the aim of protecting the environment.

The COP is the electrical efficiency of a heat pump when operating in heating mode. It is the relationship between electrical consumption and thermal efficiency. This means that a COP of 3 is equivalent to 3kW of heat being returned for every 1kW of electrical power consumed.

Correspondingly, the efficiency rating EER is the electrical efficiency of a heat pump when operating in cooling. It is the correlation between electrical consumption and thermal efficiency. This means that an EER with a value of 3 is equivalent to 3kW of energy absorbed from the environment in the form of heat for 1kW of electrical power consumed.

Therefore, the higher the COP & EER values, the greater the power they offer in combination with lower consumption.

Choose a heat pump that is environmentally friendly
